Simpson Bay hotels on St. Maarten: What’s open?

The Dutch side of St. Maarten was hard-hit by Hurricane Irma, a devastating Category 5+ storm, back on September 6 of last year, like most of its Caribbean neighbors. And like them, most regions were so severely impacted, many businesses had to suspend operations.

In the area of Simpson Bay, many hotels are ready to welcome guests back. Points of interest at Simpson Bay include Simpson Bay Lagoon, Maho Beach, Mullet Bay, Kim Sha Beach, and Casino Royale. Simpson Bay Lagoon is one of the largest inland lagoons in the West Indies of the Caribbean. The border between the French and Dutch halves of the island runs across the center of the lagoon. Within the lagoon itself are two small islands.
