After Hurricane Irma swept through St. Martin in the Caribbean in mid-September 2017, the Hotel La Plantation in Orient Bay has announced it will be having a soft opening on April 16, 2018.

Because of the high demand from loyal guests wanting to come to St. Martin to show their support for the island, and specifically La Plantation, the hotel is offering a “soft opening.” This means a partial reopening with limited availability, services, and amenities. These limitations may of course be remedied at any time, however, the hotel cannot guarantee these services will be available at the time of reservation.

Currently, studios and suites do not have cable TV or Wi-Fi connection, but Wi-Fi will be available in the reception area. 24/7 reception services will not be available. When there is no personnel on duty at the reception desk, guests may contact restaurant personnel or a member of the staff by phone. There will be ongoing renovation on site, so guests will be accommodated in villas as far away as possible from villa renovations.

Guests will not have use of a beachfront restaurant with lounge chairs and umbrellas until sometime during the summer. There is currently, however, a “LoLo” type BBQ stand located towards the southern end of the beach, but guests will incur a charge for use of their facilities.

As of this update there are more than 140 restaurants now open (mostly on the Leeward side of the island), plus many shops, grocery stores, gas stations, banks, and medical facilities. Princess Julianna is accepting limited commercial flights, and cruise ships are sailing into the Port of St. Maarten in Philipsburg.

Savvy travelers will appreciate the services of Shop-n-Drop who will very discriminatingly shop for your online order and have your groceries neatly put away for you prior to your arrival.

Orient Bay will still be a magical, relaxing place to vacation, and in fact, a visit before the crowds are back may prove to be an exceedingly enjoyable experience! There are currently several restaurants serving guests in Orient Bay including: Le Piment, Le Table d’Antoine, Cote Plage, Little Italy, Le Petit Bistrot, La Rhumerie, Tai Chi, and of course Cafe Plantation, which is open at the hotel for breakfast and dinner.

The resilient and energetic business owners and residents who rely on tourism as their sole source of income are united in the goal of getting things back to “better than” normal ASAP. The island has been in hyper-recovery mode and every day gets better.

The Hotel La Plantation is firmly convinced that St. Martin will be better than ever before. It will be a safer, cleaner, more modern destination, but maintain its Caribbean charm and reputation as “the Friendly Island.”
