TRVL’s Board of Directors has appointed Arthur Hoffman, ex-President of Expedia’s Affiliate Network and former COO of TRVL as TRVL’s new CEO. Hoffman is succeeding Jochem Wijnands, TRVL’s founder. Wijnands is appointed Chairman of the Board.
Arthur Hoffman is a travel industry veteran who set up Expedia in Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia, and later became global President of Expedia’s Affiliate Network.
Jochem Wijnands: “As TRVL is successfully transitioning from a start up to a scale up, the experience and qualities of Arthur make him the perfect CEO going forward.”
TRVL.com is a peer-to-peer travel booking platform designed for the next generation of travelers.
Trivago CEO Rolf Schrömgens: ”I think there is a major problem unsolved, and that is getting you into the ideal hotel. I don’t think that is happening right now. There is a huge value that can be unlocked.” (CNBC, Dec 2016).
Expedia’s ex-CEO Dara Khosrowshahi thinks the travel industry will move back to the model of customers visiting a travel agent. An online travel agent, that is. (Seattle Times, May 2016).
Hoffman: “On demand and personalized travel advice is clearly the direction the online travel market is moving into, and TRVL is spear-heading that trend.”
Jochem Wijnands is an experienced entrepreneur who sold his previous company Prss to Apple for an undisclosed amount in 2014. Prss is the mobile publishing platform that became Apple News app that launched in 2015 and is part of Apple’s iOS.
