Danish ATP Real Estate and BC Hospitality Group are joining forces in a brand new hotel project that will secure the return of the American multinational hotel company, Hilton to the Danish capital Copenhagen. ATP and BC Hospitality Group will invest in a comprehensive refurbishment and extension of a former iconic bank domicile on the Copenhagen waterfront, which is being converted into a brand new Hilton hotel scheduled for opening in 2020.

The future hotel, with the provisional name “Hilton Copenhagen City”, is expected to become a new landmark on Copenhagen’s harbor front, and it is the internationally acclaimed Danish architect company, Henning Larsen Architects, that will be carrying out the conversion. With its 29,000 square meters, the new hotel will accommodate some 400 rooms of international top standard, meeting and conference facilities, executive lounge, fitness center, parking facilities, bar and two restaurants – one of which will be on the quayside. The building will open up to both the harbor area and the neighboring area of Torvegade and Knippelsbro – in line with and with great respect for the city’s architectural and sustainable profile.

Plans well under way

The conversion into Hilton Copenhagen City is expected to commence as soon as a new district plan is available and if the planning process proceeds according to plan, the Hilton is expected to open its doors to an international and local audience in 2020.

“We are very pleased that this distinctive property in our portfolio is being rebuilt to accommodate one of the world’s strongest hotel brands. The investment will not only contribute positively to the ROI of ATP Real Estate and thus, our ATP members, but also to the city’s growth potential by increasing the number attractive facilities available to international leisure and business travelers – and we look forward to collaborate with the City of Copenhagen and BC Hospitality Group on the approval of a district plan that enables the project,” says Michael Nielsen, CEO of ATP Real Estate.

Mr. Nielsen also adds that the previous resident, financial services group Nordea, has re-located already, and that this paves the way for ATP Real Estate to begin the preparatory work as soon as possible.

BC Hospitality Group recognized local operator

Hilton Copenhagen City is expected to become a beautiful new landmark on the Copenhagen waterfront and to be run by the experienced Danish hotel operator BC Hospitality Group. The Group is one of Denmark’s largest hotel, conference, trade fair and hospitality providers, and already operates the city’s three other international hotel brands – the 5-starred Copenhagen Marriott, as well as the two 4-star hotels, AC Hotel Bella Sky Copenhagen, and Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers.

CEO of BC Hospitality Group, Allan L. Agerholm, comments on the return of Hilton hotels to Copenhagen:

“This hotel project has been long in the waiting and is an integral part of our Group’s strategy of ensuring a continued growth in the number of strong international hotel brands – and thereby foreign guests – in the Danish capital. We are very pleased to see the return of the highly esteemed Hilton hotel brand to Copenhagen and delighted that Hilton has chosen us as their local partner. This new collaboration means that our Group will be operating all four of the world’s leading international hotel brands in the city. ”
