Discover The Palm Beaches welcomes new Senior Director of Leisure Travel Industry Sales

Discover The Palm Beaches (DTPB), formerly the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau, announced that Erick Garnica has joined its leisure sales staff as Senior Director, Leisure Travel Industry Sales. With 17 years of sales success, Garnica brings a wealth of experience and firsthand knowledge of Florida to the team. In his new role, he will provide strategic direction and leadership for leisure travel industry programs and oversee development of worldwide leisure markets. Garnica reports to DTPBโ€™s Senior Vice President, Marketing, Leisure Sales & Community Engagement, Rich Basen.

Most recently, Garnica served as the Director of International Sales for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau (GFLCVB). His responsibilities included selling Greater Fort Lauderdale as a leisure destination to travel agents and tour operators internationally, with a focus on Latin America, Europe, and Scandinavia. He was also involved with the Broward County Aviation Department in developing new airlift into Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. Before joining GFLCVB in 2013, Erick held the position of Senior International Tourism Sales Manager at the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau, where he developed relationships with tour operators and wholesalers in international markets, including the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Canada and Latin America. He also worked with media outlets in those respective countries to create brand awareness.

Originally from Mexico City, Erick began his tourism career after relocating to the west coast of Florida 18 years ago, holding positions in reservations, marketing and leisure sales in the hospitality community in Southwest Florida, including LXR-Luxury Resorts & Hotels, The Registry Resort in Naples and Edgewater Beach Hotel. Garnica is fluent in English and Spanish, and proficient in German.

Garnica is active in Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI).

In 2017, The Palm Beaches welcomed a record 7.89 million visitors. The tourism industry in Palm Beach County supports approximately 70,000 jobs, with an economic impact of about $7 billion.
