Visit Estonia reports a surge in UK visitor numbers to the destination in 2017, with the number of UK tourist arrivals increasing by a fifth compared to 2016. Figures from January to December 2017 show an uplift of 20%, with over 58,402 UK visitors traveling to the destination during this 12-month period.

The report shows the number of overnights spent in Estonian accommodation establishments by UK tourists was 128,076 – a rise of 19% on 2016.

The news comes as the destination celebrates ESTONIA 100 in 2018- a special program of events and initiatives to mark the Republic of Estoniaโ€™s 100th Anniversary of Independence. An exciting program of art, music and history-themed events has been released to further promote the destination.

It is the fourth year in a row Estonia has experienced an increase in British visitor numbers, demonstrating a significant growth in its appeal to the UK market. The launch of the BA London Gatwick – Tallinn direct flight in early 2017 has contributed to the rise in UK visitor arrivals by making it easier for Brits to travel to the destination.

Director of Visit Estonia, Tarmo Mutso commented: โ€œIt is an incredibly exciting time for Estonia and the rise in visitor numbers from the UK is testament to our efforts in promoting the destination to this key market. We are thrilled to see a growing interest in our country. Estonia offers an incredible mix of experiences for all ages, including nature activities, rich cultural offerings, unexpected food delicacies and unique wellness experiences. As we prepare for the official ESTONIA 100 events to begin, we hope to attract even more visitors throughout the year to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion.โ€
