Airline group: Only Mexico hit hard by swine flu

MADRID — The International Air Transport Association says the outbreak of swine flu seems only to have affected airline traffic to and from Mexico.

Association CEO Giovanni Bisignani says, “We haven’t seen any relevant impact which could compare with SARS,” the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome outbreak in Asia in 2003 that reduced world air traffic by 20%.

Speaking in Madrid on Tuesday, Bisignani said, “What we have seen in these two weeks is a noticeable slowdown in traffic to and from Mexico.”

But he says the association will not have figures for air traffic in the month of April until next week.
