Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has appointed Mr. Ailende Okoromu its new Country Manager for Tanzania to oversee the airline’s fast-growing commercial operations in Tanzania’s business capital of Dar es Salaam and across the country.
Working at the airline’s Dar es Salaam Office, Mr. Okoromu moved to Tanzania from his previous position as Etihad Airways Sales Manager in Nigeria, where he was responsible for the ongoing development of the airline’s commercial operations across the Sub-Sahara Africa and Indian Ocean region.
Mr. Okoromu joined Etihad Airways in 2012, working for the airline’s winning team in West Africa. While in Tanzania, Mr. Okoromu will lead the Abu Dhabi-based airline’s commercial strategy in Tanzania and be responsible for further strengthening its business cooperation with travel trade partners and corporate customers.
His extensive commercial experience and successful track record in the African aviation industry will be invaluable as he continues to develop awareness of Etihad Airways, making him the ideal candidate for this important position, Etihad Airways Management said this week.
Established in 2003, Etihad Airways is among the fastest growing airlines in the world. The Airline launched its first flights to Tanzania in December 2015, with a daily service operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft featuring 16 seats in Business Class and 120 in Economy Class.
Dar es Salaam is the airline’s third gateway in East Africa, along with Nairobi in Kenya, and Entebbe in Uganda.
Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa that engaged in trade relations with the UAE, where the volume of trade exchange for non-oil commodities in 2013 was about US$ 2.24 billion.
About 15,000 tourists from the Gulf visit East Africa every year, compared to traditional tourists from Europe and North America.
Although small in figures, East African nations are taking advantage of the Middle East-registered airlines to be a lifeline for Arab-speaking holidaymakers.
