SINGAPORE – Agoda.com, Asia’s global hotel booking site and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline.com, is offering fantastic hotel rates in some of Thailand’s most picturesque destinations, just in time for Thailand’s Mother’s Day.

Different countries recognize Mother’s Day on different days and in different ways. In the United States and Australia, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May when mothers are usually given handmade gifts and treated to breakfast in bed. In the Middle East, Mother’s Day falls on the vernal equinox and in the United Kingdom on the fourth Sunday of Lent.

While in some countries Mother’s Day coincides with an important date, nowhere is this more apparent than in Thailand, where it falls on August 12 to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday. Thailand’s Mother’s Day is, therefore, not only a time when families show appreciation for their mothers, but it is also a time when Thai people unite to show love and respect for the “Mother” of Thailand, HM The Queen Regent Sirikit.

The Queen’s Birthday is celebrated in schools around the country with special ceremonies and tributes to Her Majesty in the lead up to the public holiday. In Bangkok, Ratchadamnoen Avenue and the streets surrounding the Grand Palace are decorated with hundreds of thousands of lights. A music, food, and cultural festival takes place in Sanam Luang park, next to the palace. Fireworks displays are staged across the capital.

During this time, the mood in Thailand is upbeat and festive. It’s a great time to organize a family getaway, take a mother’s day shopping trip, or for mothers and daughters, to have a special spa day at a local hotel. Rates are great throughout Thailand right now, and hotels are offering special promotions during what is normally the low season.

To make this wonderful holiday all the more memorable, Agoda has secured dozens of great deals across hotels in Thailand to mark the occasion both in Bangkok and in the provinces. Below is a list of suggestions from some of Agoda’s experts – stunning places offering great experiences for locals and visitors alike.

KHAO YAI

Khao Yai is wine country, with lush national parkland, densely forested hills, and much cooler temperatures than Bangkok. August is the perfect time to visit Khao Yai as it’s when the region’s waterfalls are at full flow. Close to Khao Yai National Park is Primo Posto and Palio, a slice of Tuscany in the Thai countryside. Mums will love the picturesque walking street complete with vine-covered villas and quaint boutiques, inspired by the owners’ trips to Florence.

Khao Yai also has world-class golf courses and luxury spas, where mums can experience complete rejuvenation. Kirimaya Golf Resort and Spa is one property that offers both – with chic five-star suites and palatial tent villas surrounded by rice fields and reflection pools. The Maya Spa offers a full menu of pampering treatments. For the months of August and September, Agoda is offering a special rate of 5000 baht THB per night for a Plantation View Room, with breakfast included.

CHIANG MAI

Sprinkled with temples and surrounded by mist-laced hills, Chiang Mai is another holiday destination favored by mums. Chiang Mai offers a range of different experiences, from browsing the bustling night markets to indulging in beauty therapies to paying respects at the serene Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. A day out visiting Lin Ping the panda cub at Chiang Mai Zoo can be followed by a five-course dinner in the city center.

The Chedi Chiang Mai is a cool, calm mix of the traditional and the contemporary. Suites are minimal and spacious, some with views of the river. For Mother’s Day, Agoda is offering Deluxe Rooms for 3600 THB per night.

HUA HIN/CHA-AM

So perfect is Hua Hin that it was chosen by the royal family as the location of their official retreat. The warm blue waters of the Gulf of Thailand lap the shores of Thailand’s first resort town, and world class seafood is offered everywhere from street-side stalls to five-star restaurants. On the way to the seaside, the vintage-style Plearnwan market provides a few hours of fun and photos, with old-fashioned shops selling retro-style fashion, curios, and antiques.

For complete luxury and excellent positioning, Agoda is offering a special promotion at the Hilton Hua Hin. The Hilton is right on the beach in the center of the restaurant precinct. Agoda is offering a 20 percent discount at the Hilton, with rates beginning at 3300 THB per night.

In Cha-am, The Alila Hotel offers sophisticated design and pure luxury positioned on a quiet beach. The property has several pools – some private – with spa cabanas available for massages by the water. Agoda is offering a 15 percent discount to customers who book 21 days in advance – valid until the end of September, from Sunday to Friday.

SAMUI

This beautiful island in the Gulf of Thailand is peppered with luxury properties to offer mums a peaceful beach getaway. Chaweng beach is the most popular on the island, but there are plenty of waterside restaurants right around the island, offering great seafood and views to match. Samui also offers millions of photo opportunities with viewpoints all over the island – Bo Phut is one of the most spectacular.

Positioned on the southern tip of Samui at Taling Ngam is the serene Coconut Villa, set in manicured gardens close to the water’s edge. Coconut Villa enjoys quiet surroundings, a short drive from the restaurant scenes of Lamai and Chaweng beaches. Agoda is offering rooms from 1400 THB per night for the Deluxe Pool View rooms.

BANGKOK

The capital is a great place to spend quality time with mum. The Grand Palace and has a full day of activities scheduled on the Queen’s Birthday, while Wat Po, Wat Arun, and Wat Phra Kaew are always great to visit. River cruises are a relaxing way of pampering parents, or for something more energetic, there’s shopping in the city’s luxury malls like Paragon or Gaysorn. High tea in the Erawan Tea Room is a classy way to show mum the love she deserves.

The Chao Phraya is one of Bangkok’s most striking features, and the Marriot Resort and Spa is located right on the riverside. Guests can dine on the water on the Manohra dinner boat, enjoy jazz in the Elephant Bar or indulge in rejuvenating treatments in the Mandara Spa. Book a Junior Suite Room before October 31 to enjoy a 23 percent discount, with room rates from 4928 THB per night.
