As part of its longstanding partnership with XTERRA, Outrigger Resorts is proud to announce Ben Hoffman as the winner of the Outrigger Resorts Double award for the third straight year – proving once again that he is the best at both road and off-road triathlon. The award is presented annually to the participating athlete with the fastest combined times in both the XTERRA World Championship and Ironman Hawaii Championship.

Hoffman finished 12th overall in last Sunday’s XTERRA World Championship with a time of 2:47:08, his Ironman Kona time was 8:19:26 – making his combined time for both races 11:06:34. As a prize for this incredible feat, Hoffman was awarded $2,500. The top amateur man was Philipp Widmann from Germany with a combined time of 12:50:29 and Verena Eisenbarth won the women’s amateur double in 14:15:41 – each earning a four-night stay at any one of the six Hawaii Vacation Condos by Outrigger on Maui.

Celebrating its 22nd year, the 2017 XTERRA World Championship brought together more than 800 endurance athletes from 52 countries for the final portion of a series of more than 100 off-road triathlon races held in 30 countries and 38 states in North America. This closing race in Kapalua, Maui started with a one-mile rough water swim at D.T. Fleming Beach, continued with a 20-mile mountain bike ride that traversed the West Maui Mountains and finished with a tough 6.5-mile trail run through forest trails and beach sand under the hot sun.

“Outrigger Resorts is proud to be a part of the exhilarating XTERRA action as the official hospitality sponsor,” said Monica Salter, vice president corporate communications for Outrigger Enterprises Group. “Just as Outrigger Resorts invites guests to ‘Escape Ordinary’ with our Signature Experiences – XTERRA does the same by providing unique opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to enjoy a first-class outdoor race experience.”

As part of its XTERRA partnership, Outrigger is a proud sponsor of the upcoming XTERRA Kapalua Trail Run World Championship on Oahu taking place Sunday, Dec. 3. Open to runners and adventure-walkers of all ages and skill levels, the premier off-road event includes courses of various levels along the scenic trails of Kualoa Ranch on Oahu’s north-eastern side, a location that is typically closed to the public and the setting for major films including Jurassic Park and 50 First Dates.
