Hurricane Maria quickly went from a tropical storm to a hurricane, and she is now a category 5 status, packing winds up to 160 miles per hour.

Maria is moving towards the northeastern Caribbean Leeward Islands of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, where Hurricane Irma just left devastation behind her. She is expected to hit on Wednesday and may head towards the Turks and Caicos by Friday.

Residents and tourists are once again bracing for tropical-storm-force winds and heavy rains.

It is too soon to tell if Maria’s path will bring her near the US East Coast.
