UNWTO General Assembly kicks off in China
The Africa Commission meeting is taking place right now at the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly being held at the Intercontinental in Chengdu, China. The meeting is being conducted under the Chairmanship of Zimbabwe Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi. Also being held today in different rooms are the Americas meeting and Middle East, with Europe being held yesterday.
The chairman began the session by recognizing the victims of Hurricane Irma.
Seen in attendance are the UNWTO nominee for Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili, Ambassador of Georgia in Spain. Also in attendance is Ambassador Madam Dho Young-shim from South Korea, Chairperson of UNWTO- ST-EP Program.
The General Assembly is the supreme organization of UNWTO, and its ordinary sessions are held every 2 years. It is attended by delegates from UNWTO Full and Associate Members, as well as representatives from UNWTO Affiliate Members.
This gathering is considered the most important global meeting of senior tourism officials and high-level representatives of the private sector.
