On Friday, March 13, Emanuel Berger will receive the “Golden Globe” from ITB Berlin. The Swiss hotelier has been exhibiting at ITB Berlin without a break since the early 1970s.

When Emanuel Berger took over as manager of the Grand Hotel Victoria-Jungfrau in Interlaken in 1970, it was what he described as “an elegant lady with torn underwear.” Gradually, and with a remarkable awareness of the changes taking place in the hotel industry, this intensely-committed hotelier is responsible for the distinctive appearance of the Grand Hotel as it is today. In just a few years, Berger turned this hotel, situated at the foot of the internationally-renowned mountain backdrop of the Eiger, Jungfrau, and Mönch, into an outstanding international address. The success of this exceptional hotelier is borne out by the many awards he has already achieved.

Even after vacating the manager’s position, Berger was not content to rest on his laurels, taking over as general operations manager for the Victoria Jungfrau-Collection, which comprises the Palace Luzern, the Eden au Lac Zürich, and the Bellevue Palace Bern. In the words of David Ruetz, senior manager of ITB Berlin, “From the very beginning in the 1970s, Mr. Berger has been one of our most important partners, supporting ITB Berlin not only in his capacity as a hotelier, but also as a representative of one of the world’s leading hotels.”

ITB Berlin is taking place from Wednesday, March 11 to Sunday, March 15, 2009. Wednesday to Friday have been designated as the trade visitors’ days. More details can be found at www.itb-berlin.com. ITB Berlin is the world’s leading travel trade show. This year ITB Berlin is booked up again, with 11,098 exhibitors from 187 countries taking part.
