The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) is preparing a project to transfer Al Baha into a city for learning. The project is based on the vision of HH Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mohammed bin Saud, Deputy Governor of the Principality of Al-Baha. HH aspires to make Al Baha, an educational destination for those seeking distinctive educational services, training, and knowledge of high quality.

The director of Al-Bahaโ€™s PTO, Dr. Mohammed bin Turki Al Mulah, stated that the tourism development of the region, with the follow-up initiatives of the Emir of Al Baha region, the under-secretary of the Emirate and the president of SCTA, HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, includes a plan that has been prepared in cooperation with SCTAโ€™s investment department.

The plan takes into consideration the region’s natural environment and investing in it in a practical way to provide an integrated learning environment, in addition to other support services such as accommodation and recreation facilities on an area of 2.5 square kilometers, near the University campus in Aqiq province.

The 2.5-square-kilometer project consists of residential and educational facilities, restaurants, retail shops, playgrounds, and a recreational village with a resort and public parks, in addition to a horse stable. The project’s next phase incorporates the preparation of studies and strategies, in an effort to include the project within the regional scheme, explore international experience with the preparation of preliminary designs and ideas in general, and to identify and negotiate funding resources and negotiate with them, as well as discussing opportunities for cooperation with relevant government agencies.
