First group of tourists from Tashkent arrives at Issyk-Kul Airport

The first group of tourists from Tashkent arrived at the International Issyk-Kul Airport today, July 4. Uzbek Airways has initiated a flight from Tashkent to Issyk-Kul International Airport (Tamchy Airport) from July 4 to August 30.

Traveling for international tourists in Central Asia has become easier as these summer flights have started between Tashkent Uzbekistan to Issyk-Kul International Airport Kyrgyzstan reported the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency. A Boeing 757-231 will perform the flights on the route from Tashkent to Tamchy and back.

The first summer flight carried international tourists along with representatives of state bodies of Uzbekistan including the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Anvar Nasyrov, as head of the delegation. Komil Rashidov, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Kyrgyzstan, and Ravshan Usmanov, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development, accompanied the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Issyk-Kul region is known for its scenic beauty, ecotourism, and Lake Issyk-Kul (“warm lake”). Lake Issyk-Kul is the second largest saline lake in the world, which never freezes despite its altitude in the Tian Shan mountain range and coldest weather in winter. Karakol is the capital city of the region which is surrounded by the Almaty Region (Kazakhstan) in the north and the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang in the southeast.

Formerly known as Tamchy Airport, Issyk-Kul International Airport started its operations in 1975 as a reserve airport for the nearby Cholpon-Ata Airport. The current runway and terminal were built in 2003. In the same year, the Kyrgyz Government renamed Tamchy Airport to Issyk-Kul International Airport.
