Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), together with Thai Trade Center and The Bombay Store, a store that for over 104 years has been selling quality items to consumers, held the Thai Fest entitled “From Thailand to Bombay (Store)” last month at The Bombay Store, Mumbai branch and Inorbit Mall – Vashi.

The purpose of this event was to promote Thai goods such as gifts, souvenirs home decoration, dining/household utensils, clothes and bags to Indian consumers and to publicize Thai art and culture in the Indian market. This is also to build up confidence and encourage high-end Indian tourists in South India to visit Thailand after the closure of Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The value of Thailand remains one of India’s favorite outbound destinations. There were about 500,000 Indian tourists who visited Thailand last year, generating reputable revenue to the Thai tourism industry.

Many aspects of Thai art and culture were presented in the Thai Fest, such as Thai dancing from Chiang Mai, woodcarving, candle making, pattern painting on umbrellas, canvas and ceramics, and Thai cooking demonstrated by a Thai chef including fruit and vegetable carving. There was a free foot massage given to tourists who spent more than Rs.3,000.

The event received great interest from Bombay Store patrons. There were over 10,000 people who saw the show. This event helped to stimulate tourist traffic to Thailand as well as boosted the selling of Thai products in India.
