Meeting Point Cologne: Cologne Convention Bureau revamps media presentation
The Cologne Convention Bureau (CCB) has published a new version of the handbook Meeting Point Cologne (MPC) for the year 2017/18. The first part of the 156-page, richly illustrated handbook is produced in a magazine-style layout and provides the reader with highly informative and entertaining editorial content on Cologne as a congress location.
The second part features an overview of around 150 partners from the following sectors: congress locations, conference hotels, event locations, and event services. Meeting Point Cologne therefore combines a wide range of both hard and soft facts on the advantages of Cologne as a location for the MICE sector and provides congress planners with first-class assistance in staging their event.
Three interviews with specialists from the start-up scene and the field of science underscore Cologne’s importance as a business and science location for the conference and congress sector. For example, Till Ohrmann, initiator of the start-up event Pirate Summit, explains how he brings together entrepreneurs and investors in an unusual setting and why this works so well in Cologne.
Prof. Lars Ribbe, Executive Director of the Institute for Technology and Resources Management and content consultant to this year’s annual program of the Cologne Science Forum, “Alles im Fluss – Lebensader Wasser” (“Everything in Flux — Lifeline Water”), talks about how the world’s management of water can be improved and why good advice on this topic is to be found in Cologne. Last but not least, Prof. Aria Adli, Director of the Sociolinguistic Lab at the University of Cologne, explains why the city provides the ideal environment for his research.
Quick and easy access to information via smartphone or tablet too
For the first time, the editorial content of this year’s annual handbook is also available via a responsive website for smartphone or tablet. Access is via a “teaser wall” at locations.cologne, where the handbook content supplements an online conference planner, an event calendar with dates of trade fairs, congresses and scientific events, and a presentation of the Cologne Convention Bureau and its services.
The partner model has continued to grow ever since CCB was first set up under the umbrella of the Cologne Tourist Board in 2008. In 2017 around 150 event location and service providers are participating, both from the private and public sectors. This marks a substantial increase in the number of partners. “A rise of 15 per cent in companies participating in our well-established partner model speaks volumes for the success of the collaboration between event industry and a municipal convention office,” says Christian Woronka, Head of the Cologne Convention Bureau. “With their know-how, all of our partners make a contribution to the quality of Cologne as a congress location.
