Cape Town Tourism and The Big Issue invite Capetonians to help create visitor guide

Cape Town Tourism has partnered with The Big Issue to produce a “Your Guide to Cape Town A-Z” to be included in The Big Issue’s 2010 FIFA World Cup™ special edition, available for three weeks from June 11, 2010. The Big Issue plans a bumper print run of 25,000 to cater to the increased readership during the period.

“The Big Issue provides employment to over 400 vendors. They, in turn, support some 1,500 people. The vendors are ideally positioned to be tourism ambassadors, and The Big Issue has a solid, instantly recognizable status internationally. We feel certain that this useful guide will push up sales and directly benefit these people during the 2010 FIFA World Cup,” said Cape Town Tourism CEO, Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold.

In creating the A-Z Guide, Cape Town Tourism and The Big Issue are calling on the people of Cape Town to participate in “crowd sourcing” the content by sending in their suggestions across a variety of themes. The themes will be released on Facebook and Twitter every two days, and people are encouraged to suggest anything that they would like a 2010 FIFA World Cup visitor to experience in Cape Town.

Themes include: Cape Town Mahala, Comedy Music and Book Clubs, Sports and Active, Spoken Word and Slam Poetry, Responsible Tourism, Restaurants and Wineries, Green CT, Kids, Teens and Family, etc.

Participation takes place between March 29, 2010 and May 10, 2010.
