UNWTO Election: Former Seychelles candidate emotional farewell

Alain St. Ange, the former minister of tourism for the Seychelles worked hard to present his “tourism for all” campaign to the world.

Having aย welcoming vision for the future of global tourism from a candidate representing a country that had a message to the world for many years: ” Friends with everyone, enemies of none,” today had an emotional message to delegates attending the Executive Council meeting this morning in Madrid.

His five-minute message was well received, saying he sadly accepted geopolitical realities that took away his ability to serve as a UNWTO Secretary-General Candidate.

Alain St. Ange ran a valiant uphill campaign for Secretary General of UNWTO. It fell not on his ability or vision, but on the fact, that another candidate from Africa, Walter Mzembi has the support of the Members of the African Union โ€“ and that included Mr. St. Angeโ€™s country of Seychelles.
