Midwest Airlines pilots ask for federal mediation

MILWAUKEE — The union representing pilots at Midwest Airlines has asked for federal mediation in its contract negotiations with the airline.

MILWAUKEE — The union representing pilots at Midwest Airlines has asked for federal mediation in its contract negotiations with the airline.

Capt. Jay Schnedorf, who is president of the Midwest pilots union, says the Air Line Pilots Association petitioned the National Mediation Board on Tuesday after the company said it would not respond to the association’s contract proposal.

He said Midwest contends the union would have to agree to all wage and benefit concessions sought by the company since last summer.

Company spokesman Michael Brophy declined comment, saying Midwest has not received any formal notification of the mediation request.

The association represents 400 Midwest pilots. That includes 270 furloughed by job cuts in the past year.
