Bin Laden job application ‘not funny’

Tourism Minister Desley Boyle says she is not amused by a fake video of Osama bin Laden applying to work for Tourism Queensland.

Applications were recently sought offering one person the chance to win a high-paid six-month stint as a caretaker on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays.

Last month, one video entry purported to show a woman getting a tattoo to prove her commitment to the Great Barrier Reef.

But it was subsequently revealed the tattoo was fake and the woman was an employee of an advertising agency involved in the campaign.

Now there is a fake video of a bin Laden applying for the job.

The latest application, posted on a video-sharing network, claims bin Laden is well suited to the job and that he enjoys “the outdoors and sandy areas”.

While it appears the video was posted as a joke, Ms Boyle says it is not amusing.

“Some people mean to have a joke, but they go too far sometimes and that one isn’t really very funny,” she said.

More than 11,000 video resumes have been received and there are still three weeks until applications close.

Ms Boyle says the application has been rejected because it is inappropriate.

“What we really do want to find – because this is a genuine job – is a genuine person, who is really able to sell themselves and why they should come out above all those many thousands of others and actually have the privilege of this job,” she said.
