SeaPort Airlines on Thursday said it has signed agreements with the city of Newport and the Port of Astoria to begin direct service to both Oregon Coast communities next month.

The service, which had previously been announced in November, will start March 15 with three daily round trips to Astoria Regional Airport in Warrenton and two daily round trips to Newport Municipal Airport.

Astoria and Newport last year received $4.5 million in state and federal grants to attract air service.

Fares start at $49 one-way from SeaPortโ€™s base at the business aviation section of Portland International Airport and $179 one-way from Seattleโ€™s Boeing Field.

The airline, which launched commercial service between Portland and Seattle in June, also serves Pendleton.
