A month-long cycling tour across the five East African states is now well underway and over the next week or so set to return from Kenya to Uganda, where the 2.880 km race started on August 1.

A month-long cycling tour across the five East African states is now well underway and over the next week or so set to return from Kenya to Uganda, where the 2.880 km race started on August 1.

Teams from Uganda were joined by riders from Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi while several Tanzanians joined the group when it entered the country from Kenya, the first to be crossed by the 21 riders after leaving Uganda.

One of the tour’s highlights was the visit to the East African Community Headquarters in Arusha, from where they made their way west towards Burundi, before eventually re-entering Uganda from Rwanda in a few days’ time.

Cycling in the wider Eastern African region is particularly popular in Rwanda as well as Eritrea, which though not a member of the East African Community, has produced some of Africa’s most competitive riders over the years.
