SAN JOSE, CA – Alaska Airlines today announced plans to begin nonstop service between Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) and Newark Liberty International Airport, a key gateway to the New York area, beginning March 12, 2017. The new service marks Alaska Airlines’ first-ever service from SJC to the New York area which is highly requested by Silicon Valley business and leisure travelers.

“I thank Alaska Airlines for their continued expansion at Mineta San José International Airport and for providing Silicon Valley travelers with this convenient option for reaching the greater New York metropolitan area,” said San José Mayor Sam Liccardo. “The addition of another nonstop flight to the East Coast is great news for Silicon Valley residents and businesses, and is the latest sign of how our airport is truly taking off.”

Alaska will operate the daily, daytime nonstop flight between SJC and Newark using modern Boeing 737 aircraft. Onboard, customers will enjoy more of what they love with free and premium entertainment downloaded direct to customer devices, Pacific Northwest-inspired food and beverages, as well as custom leather seats with power outlets to charge laptops and personal devices for each customer.

The flight is conveniently scheduled to allow travelers in both Silicon Valley and Newark to enjoy a day of business or leisure activities, with enough time to get to the airport for departure:

“The New York area is the No. 1 requested domestic destination from Mineta San José International Airport by business travelers, and we’re pleased to now offer daytime service to this highly requested market,” said Director of Aviation Kim Becker. “Alaska has achieved great success in San José with service between the West Coast’s north-south corridor, the Hawaiian Islands and Mexico, and we know Silicon Valley travelers will also support this new flight to the East Coast.”
