More than 32,000 Chinese tourists will be expected to visit Taiwan during the upcoming nine-day Lunar New Year holiday. The number could break the 40,000 mark as visa applications continue to flow in from China. Some major tourist sites such as the Sun Moon Lake, Taroko Gorge and Lugang are expected to become overcrowded.

As of February 6, the average daily number of Chinese tourists entering Taiwan is calculated to be about 4,000, which is the highest in history.

The Tourism Bureau said that as of Saturday, additional information on their website now includes promotion of 20 popular Chinese tourist spots throughout the island.
