WASHINGTON, DC – International air traffic to/from the US totaled 32.3 million passengers for January and February 2016, a seven percent increase over the same two months in 2015.
US citizen travel (14.2 million) was up 12 percent, comprising 44 percent of all air traffic, and increased market share. Non-US citizen air travelers (18.1 million) increased by four percent.
U.S. airlines carried 16.1 million passengers, up four percent, but their share declined to 50 percent. Foreign flags carried 16.2 million passengers, up 11 percent from same period 2015.

Overseasair traffic accounted for 23.1 million passengers, 72 percent of all international, and grew by eight percent.
U.S. citizen travel (10.0 million) increased 10 percent and comprised 43 percent of overseas air traffic. Non-U.S. citizen air travelers (13.1 million) increased by seven percent.
U.S. airlines carried 11.0 million passengers, up four percent, their share dropping to 48 percent. Foreign flags carried 12.1 million passengers, up 12 percent from February 2015 YTD.

Estimated capacity (308,300 seats) on inbound flights from PRC was up 27.6 percent year-over-year. However, overall inbound passenger growth was 17.0 percent, less than seat capacity growth.
Chinese carriers increased average weekly frequencies from 101 to 144, up 43 percent.
U.S. carriers increased average weekly frequencies from 106 to 123, up 16 percent.

The Gulf carrier passenger share was 3.0% of all international passenger traffic to/from the U.S., up from 2.7% in first two months of 2015. Almost 539,000 passengers were inbound to the U.S. of which 280,000 were foreign travelers.
North American markets accounted for 28 percent of U.S. international air traffic flows.
Canadian air traffic accounted for 4.46 million passengers, 14 percent of all international traffic, and declined by one percent.
U.S. citizen travel (1.028 million) increased 16 percent and composed 23 percent of air traffic. Canadian, and other foreign national citizen air travelers transiting through Canada (3.4 million), decreased by five percent. Market share declined to 77 percent.
U.S. flags carried 1.6 million passengers, down seven percent from 2015, and their share declined to 36 percent. Foreign flags carried 2.9 million passengers, up two percent.

Mexicoair traffic accounted for 4.7 million passengers, 15 percent of all international traffic, and was up 12 percent.
U.S. citizen travel (3.2 million) increased 16 percent and composed 68 percent of all air traffic. Mexicans, and other foreign national air travelers (1.5 million) transiting through Mexico, increased by three percent, market share slipped to 32 percent.
U.S. flags carried 3.5 million passengers, up 11 percent from 2015, and their share slipped to 75 percent. Foreign flags carried 1.2 million passengers, up 13 percent increasing share to 25 percent.
