The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) is warning the general public to guard against bogus tourism entities claiming to be coordinating destination marketing ahead of the 2010 FIFA football World Cup to be held in South Africa.

In a statement, the tourism body said, “In this regard the ZTA, as the sole legitimate destination marketer, wishes to advise the public to guard against such bogus entities masquerading as facilitators of national tourism activities.”

The tourism body also went further to identify such entities that were at the same time trying to hide their identity and core functions and agenda.

“One such organization is known as The 2010 Trust. By way of this public communication, we wish to dismiss the trust and its dubious activities with the contempt it deserves and urge our publics, who include foreign missions in Zimbabwe, to shun such tricks as they may be trapped and swindled of their fortunes by these fly-by-night entities,” added the tourism authority.

Despite the cropping up of bogus tourism coordinating and marketing firms, ZTA stated that private initiatives aimed at complementing current efforts of developing, promoting, and marketing the destination ahead of the 2010 World Cup are welcome.

In terms of the Zimbabwean law, it is mandate of the ZTA to coordinate all national tourism marketing activities. In terms of the same laws, no one can offer tourism services whatsoever without proper registration and approval of the ZTA.
