AirTran Airways offers new service betweeen Des Moines and Orlando

AirTran Airways announced today its latest expansion to Orlando by unveiling service from Des Moines International Airport (DSM).

AirTran Airways announced today its latest expansion to Orlando by unveiling service from Des Moines International Airport (DSM). This destination marks the 43rd city the low-cost carrier serves from the popular Central Florida tourist destination, more than any other airline.

The service will begin on Saturday, March 6, 2010, with AirTran Airways’ Wi-Fi equipped, Boeing 717. AirTran will be the only carrier offering non-stop service from DSM to Orlando International Airport.

“AirTran Airways is very excited to begin service from Des Moines to one of the nation’s most popular tourist destinations,” said Kevin Healy, senior vice president of marketing and planning for AirTran Airways. “We look forward to offering our low-cost, high-quality product from central Iowa to our hometown of Orlando.”

In addition to this new service to Orlando, AirTran Airways announced earlier this month that its marketing partner, SkyWest Airlines, will also be offering non-stop service from Des Moines to Milwaukee.

“We are privileged to welcome AirTran Airways back to central Iowa and excited that they have already decided to expand their announced service at DSM,” said Craig Smith, aviation director, Des Moines International Airport. “We hope this is just the beginning of a growing partnership as AirTran Airways serves many markets important to central Iowa air travelers.”

The following nonstop flights between Des Moines and Orlando will be available on Saturdays and Sundays beginning March 6, 2010: Flight 1297 departing Orlando at 8:50 am, arriving in Des Moines at 10:50 am; Flight 1296 departing Des Moines at 11:25 am, arriving in Orlando at 3:05 pm.
