World’s largest ship can dock at St.Kitts’ Port Zante

The Oasis of the Seas, the newest and largest cruise ship in the world can be accommodated at St.Kitts’ Port Zante and it may happen soon, as the Port has been officially assessed as “Oasis capable.”

So says Richard “Ricky” Skerritt, St.Kitts’ Minister of Tourism – one of the specially invited guests of Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises, who recently spent a weekend aboard Oasis of the Seas, to get acquainted with the elegant cruise ship.

The 5,400-passenger ship is currently docked at the brand new Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, which has been designed and built as home port for the Oasis.

The aptly named Oasis, which is about to set sail for the first time shortly, will run a winter itinerary which will include the Caribbean cruise ports of Nassau, Bahamas; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and Philipsburg, St.Maarten.

Minister Skerritt describes the state of the art ship as “awesome” and the experience on board, as “enlightening.”

“The innovative designs and standards in delivering customer service, use of technology and various energy and environmental management systems are instructive for all who have interests in the future of tourism,” said Skerritt.

While on board, the Minister had an extensive tour of the ship, while it was still undergoing final interior dressings.

He also took the opportunity to have discussions with his Royal Caribbean hosts, including Chairman and CEO, Richard Fain and Craig Milan, Senior VP for land Operations.

Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises brought 76,772 passengers to St.Kitts last season and are expected to double those numbers this year. Port Zante is expected to attract over 500,000 cruise ship passengers for the first time ever this season.
