Hungarian tourists questioned after terror threat note

Varanasi – The Anti-Terrorist Squad of Uttar Pradesh and intelligence personnel questioned a Hungarian tourist group, which came from Pakistan, after a note speaking of terror threat to hotels in Agra was found from the hotel room of a doctor couple in the group.

Vijay Prakash, SSP Varanasi, told PTI that the staff of a five-star hotel at Agra found a note written on the telephone directory in the room, which was occupied by the Hungarian couple. The note mentioned an attack on the hotel on December 21.

The hotel management immediately informed the authorities. The couple was then traced at Varanasi where they reached after their visit to Khjuraho in Madhya Pradesh.

On the basis of suspicion, the ATS and IB personnel, accompained by local police, verified their credentials and took their hand writing samples.

Vijay Prakash said that in the initial investigation no terrorist connection of the group was found and they were allowed to continue their visit to Mumbai. However, the Mumbai police and the intelligence people were alerted there to keep a vigil.

According to sources, a 16-member group, of which the Hungarian couple was a part, came to India from Pakistan through the Attari border and reached Delhi and Agra. The group left for Mumbai on Friday.
