The president’s speedboat was just six feet (two meters) from the main presidential jetty serving Male island, the capital of the Maldives, when an explosion rocked the arriving vessel.

The president was unhurt but his wife and two aides were injured and rushed to a hospital.

Maldives is considered an island paradise and loved by tourist and visitors from around the globe.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated at this time.
The 59 year old head of state Abdulla Yamee is a controversial figure both at home and abroad. He rose to power in a bitterly contested presidential election in 2013.
