ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – The British Embassy in Ethiopia formally handed over aviation security equipment to officials at Bole International Airport. The British Embassy in Ethiopia formally handed over aviation security equipment to officials at Bole International Airport on Friday 31 July 2015.

The equipment, including an Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) machine and test pieces for x-ray machines will assist in broadening aviation security detection capability at Bole International Airport. Indeed the ETD machine provides Ethiopia with the latest technology to detect explosives on passengers and on their baggage, with detection of a broad range of explosives in less than ten seconds!

The Embassy also presented certificates officials at the airport who successfully participated in a UK โ€˜Aviation Security Supervisors’ course between 20-22 July 2015.

Alan Lee, the Embassy Aviation Security Officer, while handing over the equipments said: โ€œTerrorism is a global issue. The UK is keen to continue its good working relationship with the airport authorities in Ethiopia on aviation security, in an effort to protect people from terrorism threats. We are pleased to be able to handover specialist aviation security equipment to Bole International Airport today and to run aviation security training courses. We should continue to help one another and share experiences in our efforts to improve aviation security standards across the regionโ€.
