MEXICO CITY, Mexico – Volaris, the ultra low cost Mexican airline, announced today their consolidation in Mexico’s Bajio region, with new international services connecting Leon, Guanajuato to Los Angeles, California operating four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

“This is yet further proof that we are committed to uniting friends and family on both sides of the border at low fares, efficiently and safely,” said Volaris Commercial Director, Holger Blankenstein. “To date we have transported nearly 5 million passengers to and from California, a number that is on the rise given our more than 160 flights per week, to the seven destinations we service in the state.”

Statistics from Pew Hispanic Center inform that there are over 14 million Hispanic residents in California, of which 83% are of Mexican origin. “Now, it is easier for the paisano community to travel to Mexico’s Bajio Region on board one of the youngest fleets in the Americas โ€“ this at the lowest, clean and clear fares,” Blankenstein added.

He also informed that the new route becomes the fifth destination operated by Volaris from Leon, Guanajuato, “at this time we are totaling five destinations serviced from Bajio, and of these, three are to the US, reiterating our other goal which is to provide the region with greater domestic and international connectivity,” he concluded.

“We congratulate Volaris for the introduction of new international service to Los Angeles,” said Gina Marie Lindsey, Executive Director at Los Angeles World Airports. “Volaris will be operating from Terminal 2, currently under transformation. Once we’ve completed this construction, the travel experience for Volaris Customers will improve significantly.”

The new service helps consolidate Volaris positioning as the Mexican airline with highest number of routes throughout Mexico and to the US, totaling 140 routes to 61 destinations, of which 20 are to the US and 38 domestic. Since its inauguration, Volaris has transported over 49 million passengers, and of these nearly 7 million have been to the US. This number continues on the rise as a result of more than 220 daily flights.
