SAN JOSE, CA – On June 15 representatives of Hainan Airlines, City of San José, Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco, and Silicon Valley’s business leadership will inaugurate the first-ever nonstop service between Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) and Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK).

Event activities will include a water cannon salute*, ribbon cutting and breaking of an oversized fortune cookie.

*Replaces the weekly Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting trucks water discharge test which typically occurs every Sunday at SJC.

Hainan, the largest privately owned air transport company in China, is currently operating at three other gateways in the US – Seattle, Boston and Chicago-O’Hare. San José marks Hainan’s fourth US city, and launches the service with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner five times per week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Connections to and from points throughout China are also possible via Hainan’s extensive domestic network.
