Malaysia Airlines appoints new chief financial officer

Mohd Azha bin Abdul Jalil has been appointed as the new chief financial officer (CFO) for Malaysia Airlines.

Azha, 42, joined Malaysia Airlines in July 2007 as senior general manager, finance. He has been instrumental in assisting management on BTP1 and BTP2 initiatives, instituting transparent investment decision processes, and consolidating group finance functions.

“I am pleased to announce Azhaโ€™s appointment as chief financial officer. In the last 2 years, Azha, Idris, and I have worked closely on all key initiatives, and Azhaโ€™s financial advice has been invaluable.

โ€œAs CFO, Azha will take the lead in cost optimization, implementation of enterprise resource planning, and addressing our financing needs especially for new aircraft deliveries,โ€ said managing director and chief executive officer, Tengku Azmil Zahruddin.

Prior to joining Malaysia Airlines, Azha was with the Shell group of companies where he held 8 different positions within a span of 17 years. The assignments included general finance manager of Shell MDS Malaysia, senior analyst (business performance and strategy) at Shell International London, finance manager (commercial) of Shell Malaysia Trading Berhad, and several positions at Sarawak Shell Berhad. He started his career with KPMG Peat Marwick and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting (high distinction) from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA.
