ROCKVILLE, MD – Spearheading the hospitality industry’s efforts in Montgomery County, Maryland to be increasingly environment conscious, the Legacy Hotel & Meeting Centre launched its environmental program by integrating greener hotel products, cleaner energy, and enticing its guests to live green while traveling by participating in its Turn On(TM) service to offset the carbon footprint of their stay.

“We are proud of our commitment to both traditional hospitality and contemporary environmental responsibility,” said Eric Siegel, executive vice president of Cohen Companies, the owner group of The Legacy Hotel & Meeting Centre. “We are introducing our 100 percent recycling policy and hope that our guests will join our efforts to greening their stay.”

As the first hotel in the Montgomery County to be powered by 100 percent wind energy, The Legacy has partnered with Clean Currents of Rockville, MD to bring their carbon footprint to zero for energy consumption and minimize its pollution impact on the fragile environment. As part of the hotel’s green initiative, the hotel has entered into a Green Power Partnership with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which encourages the voluntary use of green power to reduce the risk of climate change.

“We are delighted to assist The Legacy Hotel in their initiative to promote clean air by purchasing clean, renewable, wind-powered electricity,” said Charles Segerman, CEO of Clean Currents. “We applaud The Legacy Hotel and Meeting Centre for their environmental stewardship.”

In addition to converting its cleaning products and detergents to organic, biodegradable solutions and installing recycling baskets in each of its 162 spacious guest rooms, hotel guests can further offset the carbon footprint of their stay in support of the hotel’s new Turn On(TM) service by purchasing an eco-friendly t-shirt logoed with the hotel’s environmental campaign slogan, “I Got Turned On At The Legacy!” Proceeds of the shirt contribute to Renewable Energy Credits through Clean Currents.

“Through this innovative new service, and at the guest’s request, guestroom energy will be turned off during the guest’s absence and turned back on thirty minutes prior to their return,” explained Mark Cohen, general manager of The Legacy & Hotel Meeting Centre.

“We hope that our efforts will inspire our guest to ‘turn on’ their conservation efforts after they leave The Legacy,” added Siegel. “From being mindful about energy use to recycling, the Turn On(TM) service exposes guests to green living methods that can be easily applied to their everyday lives.”

The Turn On(TM) service officially launched on Tuesday, October 14.
