Seychelles is proposing Mission Lodge, one of its heritage sites, as the venue of a workshop that will be organized in October 2015 by the International Cultural Tourism Committee (ICOMOS). The International Cultural Tourism Committee is recognized internationally for its major contribution to tourism management practices. Positioning the workshop at Mission Lodge in Seychelles will highlight the committeeโ€™s main objective, which is to further promote and develop major heritage assets as tourist attraction sites.

Having the International Cultural Tourism Committee branch being based in Seychelles and Mr. Patrick Nanty, Chief Executive of Seychelles Heritage Foundation, being its chairperson, is what gave Seychelles the extra mile to have its proposal accepted by ICOMOS. Mr. Nanty said staging the workshop at Mission Lodge is symbolic for Seychelles. โ€œMission Lodge is a model of a heritage site which needs worldwide recognition.โ€ Seychelles is in the run to submit a document to UNESCO, to have Mission Lodge listed as a world cultural heritage site.

In a bid to smoothly facilitate UNESCOโ€™s recognition of Mission Lodge as a world heritage site, Seychelles depends on its close collaborators within the organization. Getting the site to be recognized by the International Cultural Tourism Committee can be a good start in the process. Maria Gravaria Barbas, Director of the Research Institute of Tourism at University 1 Patheon Sorbonne, in 2013 organized an International Workshop & Tourism Expert Symposium in Seychelles, in close collaboration with the International Cultural Tourism Committee. She is once again here in Seychelles, for a groundbreaking exercise to see if itโ€™s feasible to introduce with UNISEY a masterโ€™s degree in tourism management, heritage, environment, and development. Maria Gravaria Barbas took time to pay a courtesy call to Alain St.Ange, Minister for Tourism and Culture. Minister St Ange said with her โ€œexpertise within the International Cultural Tourism Committee, she could help Seychelles stage this workshop.โ€ The workshop will also target regional participants to further promote the Mission Lodge site.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) .
