INDIA (eTN) – Tourists and locals alike are looking forward to the Sirpur National Dance and Music Festival that will be held in the historic archelogically-rich city of Chhattisgarh in India from January 16 to 18. This mega event will see performances by national and international famed artists as well as local and tribal artists.

Among the artists who will travel to the small town in the Mahasamund district on the banks of the river Mahanadi, are Kathak exponent Birju Maharaj, percussionist P. Lockett, George Brooks on saxophone, and singers Annuradha Paudwal and Shounak Abhisheki.

In an unusual move, designed to reflect and promote international understanding, the festival will be jointly inaugurated by the Ambassadors of Vietnam and of the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic. Chief Minister Raman Singh will be the chief guest, while State Tourism Minister Ajay Chandarkar will preside.

The festival will be held at the complex of the 7th century Laxmana Temple.
