Passengers at London Heathrow airport hit by flight delays and cancellations as a result of yesterday’s air traffic control computer failure could now face another anxious wait to see if they will be awarded compensation.

Thousands of people affected by the shutdown of London’s airspace are entitled to apply for compensation, but airlines can refuse to pay out if flights were grounded because of ‘extraordinary circumstances.’
It is unclear whether the computer glitch falls into that category, with experts warning that passenger payouts are not a certainty.

Despite the problem being fixed yesterday afternoon, 38 more flights were cancelled at Heathrow this morning as the chaos continued.
