SYDNEY, Australia – A visitor from UK has died in Australia after falling down a cliff while he tried to take a picture.

Gareth Jones, 25, was killed when he slipped during the ‘trip of a lifetime’ with friends at North Head peninsula near Sydney.

It is believed that he climbed over a fence to get a better view of the sunrise at about 6.45am when he slipped and fell 300ft to the floor.

A spokesman for New South Wales said his four friends were distressed by what they saw.

Acting Inspector Belinda Caddy said: ‘To me it’s just a completely tragic accident and obviously all our thoughts would be with his family.

‘A young man walking towards the edge of a cliff and slipping off. A tragic accident and we feel for all the people who were there.’

It is believed that two of his friends climbed down to Gareth’s body but when they got there he was unresponsive.

Inspector Nigel Taylor told the Sydney Morning Herald that he and his friends were sitting near the edge of the cliff before Gareth got up and slipped.

His body was retrieved by a police helicopter.
