Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) will launch on next Friday, July 24, 2009, the 6th version of GCC Media Tourism Caravan to Riyadh, Al Madinah, Asir, Al Baha, Al Taif, Makkah, and Jeddah. The Tourism Caravan will have 32 participants from media and audio-visual companies from GCC and Arabic countries. The event is conducted in cooperation with SAPTCO, the official carrier of the event.

Mr. Majed Al Sheddi, director general of information and public relations, said that SCTA, along with its provincial partners and the Arabic and GCC media, is organizing trips for various media representatives from newspapers, radio, and television channels to Saudi tourism locations during the current summer vacation (in its sixth phase), and this event is designed to support, promote, and establish the concept of pan-Arab tourism between GCC and Arabic countries, as well as the activation of the common market among the GCC countries in the field of tourism through the organization of a media trip.

SCTA believes that the media plays a key role in accelerating the development of bilateral tourism. It also aims at introducing the tourism potential of Saudi Arabia to the GCC and Arab countries and stimulating tourists to visit these areas. The event further intends to strengthen relations with the GCC and Arab countries and provide reports of interviews with officials, investors, and tourists across the region.

Mr. Al Sheddi said that the sixth phase of the project, which includes intensive daily work programs, will cover the Riyadh, Al Madinah, Asir, Al Baha, Makkah, Taif, and Jeddah areas through press meetings with their Highness provincial Amirs and chairmen of the Provincial Tourism Development Councils, besides covering tourism events that are held on the margin of summer festivals.

Mr. Al Sheddi pointed out that SCTA has used several approved tourism guides to guide media people during their visits to Saudi tourism locations. He also pointed out that this includes broadcasters and professional photographers from 7 satellite channels who enjoy a high rate of viewership and 10 editors from prominent GCC newspapers, as well as Kuwait TV, Al Watan, Al Bahrain TV, Qatar TV, and Rotana GCC, in addition to many other newspapers and TV channels. SCTA hopes through this means to encourage the public to understand the concept of tourism, as well as encourage investors to participate in developing the tourism industry in the Kingdom. SCTA also aims at forming a positive image of the internal and external public to contribute to the marketing of their products.

The director general of information and public relations of the SCTA stressed the importance of partnerships with the SCTA, which combines with the public and private sectors in Saudi Arabia. He further referred to the support and care given to the project by the president of SCTA, as well as from Provincial Amirs of the Provincial Tourism Organization, which will be visited by media and the sponsors of the caravan.
