Five journalists from the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) recently flew to Reunion Island on Air Austral as part of a press trip organized by Reunion Island Tourism (IRT). The aim of the trip was to allow the press to discover the island known as Reunion.

Of the five journalists who participated, there were three Germans, an Austrian and a Swiss, who had the opportunity to enjoy a journey of discovery on Reunion Island. With a program conducted on the themes of earth and sea, the media were able to try a variety of outdoor activities, accompanied by a representative of Air Austral Germany, Katharina Essmann, along with Marie-Christin Strecker who is responsible for marketing and promotion for the IRT in Germany.

After settling in at the Mercure Crรฉolia hotel located in the hills of Saint-Denis, journalists headed to St. Benedict in the east to visit the Counter Melissa. There was time to explore the exotic fruits and flowers of the plant, and the group was able to follow a course in Creole cuisine and taste it as well. Everyone was able to enjoy the dishes they made from fruits and vegetables that came from the garden.

The next day, the start of the day was given to the islet Coco in St. Benedict. The goal of the day was to discover the whitewater in Reunion Island through a session of rafting on the River Porpoises. In the afternoon, reporters left for a horseback ride around the Grand Etang, a body of water located in the volcanic plain of Cabbage trees.

After a night at the La Fournaise, Sainte-Rose, the media took advantage of the day to learn more about volcanoes on Reunion Island. Between discovering the Plaine des Sables, the panoramic view of No Bellecombe on the Piton de la Fournaise, and a visit to the museum dedicated to the volcano in the City of Volcan, the opportunity was given to the journalists to enhance their knowledge about the active volcano on the island. By late afternoon, the group enjoyed a sunset Boucan Canoe on the seaside coast, where they spent the night at the hotel Boucan Canoe.

The next day, the rporters discovered the seabed of the Indian Ocean. The center of Diving Navy led them into the tropical waters to meet the parrotfish, angels, trumpets, clowns… a great experience in vibrant color! By late afternoon, the participants enjoyed the sunset on the boat Big Blue before joining the hotel Boucan Canoe for dinner and an overnight stay.

On the last day, the group took to the air with helicopter Coral for a survey to explore the unique landscapes of the island from the sky! After the overview, the media ended their visit with a trip to the Piton Maido, where they enjoyed the view over Mafate below. Before leaving for the airport, the journalists enjoyed lunch at Villa Angelica in the city center of the capital of Saint-Denis.

The journalists left the meeting with a concrete vision of the overall tourist offerings of the island and its strengths. It was goal achieved for the IRT, as part of its strategy to promote the destination in the German-speaking market priority proved to be a great success.
