BUDGET airline flybe, formerly known as British European, today signed an order for £520 million worth of new planes, some of which will be based at Edinburgh.
Budget airline Flybe advertised for actors to fly between Norwich and Dublin to boost passenger numbers and avoid a £280,000 commercial penalty. The airline took the step to avoid a penalty charge from Norwich Airport if it did not carry 15,000 passengers on the route by 31 March. The airport criticised Flybe for pointlessly damaging the environment.
An airport boss accused budget airline bosses of unnecessarily damaging the environment so that they could earn a rebate worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. The managing director of Norwich International Airport said Flybe had put on last-minute extra flights, plus offered free trips in order to meet a deadline on a commercial deal.
