Texas woman guilty in airline ticket scheme

A 36-year-old woman who admitted to fraudulently obtaining and reselling Southwest Airline tickets faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

A federal prosecutor said Friday that Tasha Mathis pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Mathis obtained 100 of the 5,600 tickets that a former Southwest Airlines Co. administrative assistant acquired.

The tickets were supposed to be used to thank helpful passengers. Instead they were given to friends and relatives who sold them at low prices, cheating Southwest Airlines of $20,000.

Nine co-defendants remain under indictment, charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

A trial date has not been set.
