2 Korean tourists face drug raps
MANILA, Philippines — Prosecutors have charged two South Korea tourists before the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) for allegedly illegally possessing banned drugs.
A charge sheet filed by Assistant Prosecutor Rodrigo T. Eguila with before the Manila RTC on Friday accused No Jun, 29 years old, and Young Yoon Kuk, 39, for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Eguila set a P120,000 bail for each of the two suspects, who are currently residing at an apartment along Mabini Street in Malate, Manila.
According to the charge sheet, the two suspects were arrested for possessing 479 grams of shabu (metamphethamine hydrochloride) at 7 p.m. on May 9 on the corner of Quintos and M.H. del Pilar Streets in Malate.
It said Police Officer 3 Antero Q. Losario and Police Officer 2 Ferdinand Francia were on patrol when a pedicab driver reported hearing two Koreans asking another pedicab driver to help them buy shabu with paraphernalia.
Responding to the tip, the the two cops on board a mobile car proceeded to where the Koreans were. When the cops approached, the suspects reportedly boarded a pedicab hurriedly, prompting a chase.
The cops caught up with the suspects and as they ordered the two to alight, Kuk supposedly threw a transparent plastic onto the floor of the pedicab, which No picked up and threw out of the pedicab.
When one of the cops inspected the content of the plastic, he found one heat-sealed transparent sachet containing suspected shabu and three glass tooters.
The two Koreans were then arrested and taken to the Manila Police District Staton 5 for investigation.
