NYC's Best Kid Fest

Seaport Children’s Day features free kids entertainment and four barges of fireworks bursting above lower Manhattan

eTN Staff Writer  May 07, 2009

Voted by New York City parents as the city’s “best kid fest,” Children’s Day and Fireworks at South Street Seaport returns for its 16th anniversary on Saturday, June 13, 2009.

Tens of thousands of visitors from New York and around the world flock to the annual, day-long event in lower Manhattan for its wide array of free family-oriented entertainment, which includes performances by recording artists Robbert Bobbert and the Bubble Machine (of Apples In Stereo fame), and Rebecca Frezza & Big Truck, among others, as well as storytimes and/or photo appearances by a cast of well-known children’s characters. The day concludes with an evening concert and two barges of Zambelli Fireworks (courtesy of Target).

Scheduled for 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm, the daytime festivities also include a variety of activities and/or crafts led by area cultural and children’s museums and organizations. The 9:00 pm fireworks show – produced by Zambelli, the first family of fireworks – rivals any major celebration in New York City.
