JetBlue Airways announced today plans to continue its successful international expansion with new service this fall to the Caribbean island of Barbados, subject to receipt of government operating authority. JetBlue intends to begin daily nonstop flights year-round between Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport - where connections to cities across the United States are available - on October 1, 2009. Flights are expected to go on sale in June.

Barbados is one of 12 international locations on JetBlue's growing route map and one of the more than 50 destinations throughout the Americas to boast JetBlue's award-winning service. In addition to its new Barbados flights, JetBlue will also begin new service to Jamaica on May 21.

JetBlue will operate its Barbados service with spacious 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft. The A320 offers travelers all of the amenities for which JetBlue has become well-regarded: complimentary seatback television programming including free first-run movies, comfortable leather seats, the most legroom in coach of any US airline, unlimited free snacks, and industry-leading customer service.

"JetBlue is proud to offer our customers even more choice with the addition of new daily service between New York and Barbados," said Scott Laurence, JetBlue's vice president of network planning. "We look forward to welcoming New Yorkers and Barbadians alike to JetBlue with low fares and the promise of a great travel experience. Whether you're headed on holiday or reconnecting with family and friends, JetBlue gets you there in style and comfort, and without breaking the bank."

In applauding the new JetBlue service from JFK, the Barbados Minister of Tourism, the Honorable Richard Sealy, stated that he was happy to welcome the JetBlue service to Barbados. "The carrier has an excellent reputation in the industry, and we look forward to a long and mutually-beneficial partnership," he said, "The additional service fits in perfectly with government's strategy of increasing our levels of business out the US market."

Sorry Crista, I have to disagree. We live in a society that poisons its population with high fructose corn syrup, sodium, just plain sugar... and a bunch of other items that cause incredible health and weight issues. I understand that people who are heavy should be responsible and buy two seats, but should they not, it should not be taken out on them like cattle.
When you throw into the mix, that there are numerous mental diseases that result in weight gain, I think you will come to realize that for a lot of people, loosing weight is not just "eat better and exercise". For some, its a complete and total start over for their entire lives, and the way they grew up. Diet and exercise is just one piece of the puzzle... they also have to be mentally ready to make that sort of a difference in their lives.
It is the worst kind of addiction. If you are addicted to drugs, or booze you can quit and your body will not (in most cases, though not ALL) shut down because you don't NEED heroine or Bud Light to stay alive. But food, you need everyday, multiple times a day. So if there is a person who has a food addiction (and this is proven to be an actual addiction, with chemical imbalances in the brain to boot) it is that much harder to ween yourself from it, because it is around you pretty much all day everyday.
Now, given that you are posting this here, and the article does not speak about "fat people" even once... I have to assume that you have some sort of a prejudice against people who are overweight, which is sad.
Instead of reaching out to the people in your community who might need someone to help them out, to guide them, support them, and teach them... you are sitting on the internet finger pointing and mocking people who have a personal problem.
You should really check yourself, and try to focus on things that make you feel good- instead of pointing out the negative things in other people.

Here's a solution that seems "fair": Make all the fat people sit together. Then, if they're uncomfortable, they've no right to complain. Everyone else can manage to sit next to others quite comfortably...why can't they? If they want the privilege of paying for one seat without having to change their life habits (improving diet, exercising regularly, etc.), then they can suffer the consequences by being seated next to those who share their "problems"...

As for the argument that people with colds, people with children, people with disabilities, and so on, should suffer the same fate as the obese, let's not forget that the former cannot really control their situations. People get sick --- after they buy their plane tickets! There's really no comparison to be made between a sick person and a fat person.
