Road safety message not reaching tourists: Police
Tasmanian police say the high number of tourists involved in car accidents suggests there is a need for better visitor information about safe driving.
There have been four serious accidents involving tourists on the east coast in the past month, three of them on the same bend.
A hire car carrying five Hong Kong tourists rolled three times near Swansea yesterday, injuring a female passenger.
Sergeant Charles Stingel says since Easter there have been three serious accidents at the Coles Bay turn-off.
He has suggested warning signs and better tourist information about safe driving.
"A lot of tourists particularly from more remote areas of Australia and from countries in South East Asia do feature more often," he said.
Earlier this month a Taiwanese woman was seriously injured in a two-car collision at the Coles Bay turn-off.
Police have warned that if the current rate continues, 90 people will die on Tasmania's roads this year.
