World tourism leaders meet in Paris to celebrate 75th anniversary of Skål International
In 2009, Skål International is celebrating its 75th anniversary – a landmark year since its foundation as an international association in Paris on April 28, 1934.
Hulya Aslantas, president of Skål International commented that Skål was founded long before “travel and tourism” was recognized as a major sector and it embraced members from all branches of the industry, expanding until today in 90 countries with 20,000 plus members around the world. She added, “We wish to celebrate, not only the 75th anniversary of Skål, but also the start of the “tourism industry” as such.”
The date and place chosen for a memorable “tourism and cultural evening” to mark the anniversary will be April 27, 2009 in Paris where Skål was established.
The 75th Anniversary Gala Dinner will be organized in the French Parliament under the auspices of Mr. Bernard Accoyer, president of the French Assemblée Nationale, Mr. Hervé Novelli, Secretary of State in charge of tourism, and Mr. Ertugrul Gunay, the Minister of Culture & Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and with the participation of Skål members from around the world and the leaders of the world’s major tourism organizations.
On April 28, 2009, a visit to the grave of Florimond Volckaert, founder and first president of Skål International, will be followed by a press conference at Hotel Scribe where the association was established 75 years ago and where a plaque will be unveiled to commemorate the anniversary of this historical move, next to the original one placed in 1954. A networking lunch for all the participants joining the celebrations from all over the world will be held on board “Bateaux Parisiennes” later the same day.
