HONOLULU - The Hawaii State Commission on Status of Women (HSCSW) is pleased to announce the 2009 Hawaii honoree for Women’s History Month. Carol Philips, chair of the HSCSW said, "This year the Commission on the Status of Women is proud to honor Ms. Donna Wong, advocate, mentor, and champion of land and water issues in Hawaii. Anyone who has ever worked with Donna, heard her testify on complex land and water issues, or has attended one of her many public events or presentations, will immediately understand why we have selected her for this special recognition. Donna Wong has been and remains one of the most knowledgeable and staunchest defenders of Hawaii's fragile environment in modern history."

The invitational reception, with the Governor attending, will be held at Washington Place, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2009.

Donna Wong will be the third recipient of this annual award joining Indru Watumull (2008) and Dr. Donnis Thompson (2007). Donna Wong's bio may be found at:

BACKGROUND
In 1987, Congress enacted a law to formally designate every March Women’s History Month. As is always the goal of Women’s History Month, we take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the courage, determination, and steadfastness of the Women of Hawaii. It is with a sense of great privilege that the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women fulfills its mandate to highlight the contributions of women in the state.
